Chapter 12

Jun couldn’t sleep the whole night. He kept thinking about what happened the night before. He finally confirmed his guess on what was behind Sho’s depressed mood. Though hurt by being mistaken as another man, Jun still enjoyed the few seconds of passionate kiss he shared with the guy he has a crush on, and he was glad that he finally confessed to Sho about his feelings.

Today is his ex-lover’s wedding day. How is he taking it?

He started to get worried and decided to go check on Sho.

He rang the door bell but there was no answer.

“Sho-kun, are you in there?” Jun shouted as he bang on the door. “Open the door please.”

“Go away.”

Jun heard a soft voice coming from inside the apartment. Somewhat relieved, he continued knocking on the door.

“This is Jun. Please open the door. We need to talk.” He wanted to clear up what happened the night before with Sho. There is no way he can work with Sho with things between them hanging like this.

Slowly the door opened and Jun saw Sho standing behind it. Sho looked at Jun for one second and immediately looked down, avoiding further eye contact.

“Please come in” Sho turned around and went inside himself. Jun followed and shut the door behind him.

Sho was still in the clothes he wore the night before. Jun saw a bottle of aspirin on the table. Must be the hangover from last night. Sho was leaning against the dining table with his hands on both sides resting on the table edge. His eyes were still staring at the floor, probably didn't know how to face Jun.

“About last night – I'm really sorry” Sho finally broke the silence, “I didn’t mean to – ”

“I know, I understand you're hurting, ” Jun was upset by what happened the night before, but he also felt sorry for Sho. “But Sho-kun, you’ve got to let it go and move on.”

Sho remained silent. He wouldn't expect Jun to understand his pain, though he knew what Jun said was out of good intention.

“I've told you how I feel about you. I know it's probably too soon for you to get involved again, but I am hoping you won't reject me just yet.” Jun still thought he had a chance with Sho. “We can start over. I hope you can consider giving me a chance.”

“I don't think I'm ready yet – ” Sho knew his heart does not have room for anyone else. “I don't think I'll ever be.”

“Sho-kun, whether you like it or not, Ohno is getting married today, today! He is preparing to take his bride down the isle as we speak. He belongs to somone else now. You can't just give up your life for someone you can never have.” Jun knew it was cruel to say these things to Sho, but that's the only way he knew to make Sho to face the reality and move on, hopefully with him.

Upon hearing what Jun said, Sho broke down. All the sadness and pain accumulated these past months had finally taken over him. He couldn't find even a bit of strength in his legs. He let himself dropped to the floor, closed his eyes and let tears flew freely down his cheeks. He just wanted to cry, cry his heart out.

Jun stood there and let Sho cried. He'd feel better if he let it all out.

When Sho opened his eyes, it's already evening time. The setting sunlight that came in through the window made the whole room orange. He was laying on his bed, but he didn't remember how he got there. He's having a slight headache and he could feel his eyes swollen. What had happened?

He pushed up his body and saw Jun sitting on a chair across from his bed. Jun's eyes were closed. His right elbow was on the arm rest and his right hand supporting his head. Seeing Jun made Sho remembered what happened earlier. After the long cry, he did feel some relief, but at the same time, emptiness had invaded his heart.

“You're awake.” Jun opened his eyes and saw Sho sitting on his bed, seemed to be in deep thoughts.

“You're here the whole time?” Come to think of breaking down like he did in front of Jun made Sho embarrassed.

“Yes, I was. Are you feeling better now?” Jun asked in concern, while he went to get a glass of water for Sho.

“I am, thank you” Sho took the glass from Jun and drank down the water in one sip. All the tears he lost had made him dehydrated. “I'm sorry for my outburst. You shouldn't have to see this.”

“That's OK. I'm glad you feel better. But Sho-kun, I meant what I said” Jun renewed what he said. “I hope you can give me a chance, give – us – a chance. I promise I won't pressure you in any way.”

Sho was touched by what Jun said. Although he's not ready to accept Jun or anybody else in any way, he knew Jun is a good person and did feel some peace around him. Ohno is out of his life now. May be, just may be, he could try to find happiness with someone else.

“Jun-kun, I don't even know what I'm feeling myself, so I can't make any promise or anything. But I think we can be – friends – and see how things turn out. I'll need time.”

“Of course, I understand. That's all I'm asking.” Jun is overjoyed, and hopeful.

Earlier in the day, Ohno was sitting in his room, staring at the white tuxedo hanging by the closet. Soon he would be wearing it and walked down the isle with Hiroko. It is supposed to be the happiest day of his life, but somehow he didn't feel a bit of excitement.

It has been almost six months, but he still remembered that day clearly. He swore he saw tears in Sho's eyes when he left. But that's not impossible. He was the one who broke up with me. He remembered every single word that Sho said, the most hurtful and bitter words. His heart still ached till this day whenever Sho's cold heartless face came to mind. He was hurt, betrayed and fooled. Who would have thought the person who claimed to have loved him since high school would throw everything they had away in a blink? I guess I didn't know him afterall.

Nevertheless, he did regret some of the things he said that day also.

It really doesn't matter now. He's marrying Hiroko today, and Sho must be living happily with his new love.

He slowly got up and changed into his groom attire. He looked in the mirror and squeezed a smile on his face. I should be happy, for Hiroko's sake, for my family's sake.

“Satoshi, are you ready?” There's a knock on the door and Ohno heard his father's voice coming from the outside. “It's almost time.”

“Yes, Papa. I'm ready.” Ohno opened the door and his father came in.

“You're so handsome, son” Ohno's father gazed at his son from head to toe, giving a heartwarming smile before leaning over and gave Ohno an embrace. “Thank you.”

Ohno was taken aback by his father's thanking him. “Papa, what are you thanking me for?”

Papa put one hand on Ohno's shoulder and said, “I know you have given up a lot for this family. Ever since you came back from New York, I noticed.”

Ohno was undoubtedly surprised. Papa noticed? Slowly he put his hand on top of his father's and said, “Don't worry, Papa. It's over now.” He really didn't know if he would give up Sho for his family if Sho hadn't broken up with him. In a way, he's glad that he didn't have to make that decision himself afterall – Sho had made it easier for him.

“You'll be happy with Hiroko, she loves you very much.” Papa reassured Ohno.

Ohno just nodded and went out with his father to a new beginning of his life.

It's a full moon night, which usually symbolized union and completeness. But in Sho's heart, it's everything but.

He looked up in the sky and stared at this round and bright moon. His head still aches from the hangover, but he knew no pills can get rid of he pain he's feeling. Sometimes he would regret what he did and questioned himself if he had made the right choice, or did it the right way. But ultimately he concluded that any other way would be too selfish. His happiness would come with the price of the suffering of Ohno's family, Hiroko and possibly even Ohno himself. It's a sacrifice that he had to make.

It's Ohno's wedding night. He must be holding his bride in his arms, kissing her, warming her, and promising her the world. Sho couldn't bare this image on his mind, but he still wishes happiness for Ohno wholeheartedly. A tear drop slowing slid down his cheek.

I can't think of Satoshi anymore. He belongs to someone else now.

And there is Jun, a nice person who is willing to give Sho the comfort and love he needed most.

This night, both Ohno and Sho seemed to have moved on to a new beginning of their love life. Will this be their destiny?

To Be Continued....
