Chapter 15

Things went back to “normal” after they came back from New York. Even after Sho made it clear to Jun that they could only be friends, there were no hard feelings between them. The first couple of weeks after they got back was a little awkward. But Jun soon recovered and was able to be around Sho at ease. Little by little they became good buddies and were able to be totally relaxed around each other. They still worked closely together at work, but without any tie other than colleagues and friends. They both felt their working relationship had actually improved since they understood how things stand between them.

In a way Sho felt he had put down a big burden that had clogged within him since the break up. He was not as miserable and sad anymore. Instead of being pitiful on what happened, he started to concentrate on cherishing what he and Ohno had shared.

For the first time, he was willing to talk to Jun about Ohno and their relationship when Jun asked him. He told Jun how they knew each other back in high school, how they met again and became together. He also told Jun they broke up and Ohno got married because of family obligation, but left out how he lied to end their relationship. That’s still not something he wanted to be reminded of.

“I’m sorry it had to end that way, Sho-kun. Ohno should have done more to fight for you, for your happiness.” Jun was pissed off on how Ohno gave up on them so easily.

“He had his burden and difficulties. I don’t blame him.”

“I really admire how you love Ohno though, even till now. It’s not something anyone could do.”

“Don’t tease me, Jun-kun. May be I’m just being stubborn, or even foolish.”

“Indeed. But he’s a big idiot as well. If I ever see this guy, I’ll give him a few good punches.”

Sho’s stunned by Jun’s remarks and looked at him worriedly.

“I’m just kidding.” Jun was amazed by how much Sho still cared for Ohno. “I admit total defeat by this man!”

The color turning of the leaves gave a vibrant carpet of reds, golds, and oranges to Tokyo's sight, indicating that they are in the middle of the autumn season. Temperature is still moderate this time of year. Jun still liked to have lunch with Sho at the usual outdoor cafe they're always went.

“Sho-kun, what do you think if I take this journal writing course?” Jun showed Sho a pamphlet of some extension classes from a university in a neighboring city.

Sho read the pamphlet and seemed to like what's written on it. “It looks like a very good course, covering a lot of writing and reporting techniques. You should be able to get a lot out of it. Go for it, Jun-kun.”

“Great. I shall talk to Kawabata-san. But will you miss me if I'm gone for so long?”

“Of course.....not.”

“Ha ha, I know you're lying. You will at least miss my coffee.”

Both laughed at each others tease. Their casual talks had become more enjoyable.

“Look Sho-kun, that's the sports car I want to buy someday.” Jun patted Sho's shoulder a few times to get his friend to follow the direction he's pointing at.

“Where, which car?” Sho didn't catch what Jun wanted to show him, but instead noticed something he had been seeing a lot lately – the same man who he had seen many times looking at them from afar was there again.

This man he saw wore sun glasses and a hat, and had his coat covering half of his face. Sho couldn't get to see what he looked like. The man usually carried something in his hands. He would only stand or sit from a distance and looked towards Sho's direction. Sho didn’t notice at first. It was what the man doing that attracted his attention. The few times when Sho saw him, he seemed to be writing something or more like drawing something.

“Jun-kun, did you see that man over there?” Sho leading Jun to look at where that man was sitting. “I saw him a few times already. Is he following us?”

Jun looked towards the direction that Sho pointed at, but he didn’t see anything near the vicinity. “There’s nobody there.”

When Sho turned around and looked again, the man was gone. “That’s strange. He was right there.”

“May be you have a secret admirer....”

Somehow Sho couldn’t get the image of the mysterious man out of his mind. He couldn’t explain why, but he told himself that if he saw the man again, he would try to find out what he’s following him for.

Jun soon left for the neighboring city to start his studies and would be gone for a few months. Sho actually missed his colleague during his absence, especially his not so funny jokes, and the cup of gourmet coffee Jun bought him every morning.

He was reading his newspaper this morning like he always does. He usually read two newspapers every morning while having his coffee to start the day. Not much big news on the paper, but a headline in the business section caught his attention. It was about a hostile takeover of a small company by another, with the name of the company being the name of Ohno’s family business!

How could that be? I thought the company would be saved after he got married. When he read the fine prints of that news, he was even more confused. The name of the company president mentioned was not Ohno, but other than that all information about the company matched that of Ohno's. He made a note to himself to find out more about this takeover news when he had time.

With Jun gone, work at the news agency was busier than usual. Sho soon forgot about the takeover news he saw the other day. He even gradually forgot about the man whom he thought had been watching him several times, until that day.

It was a cool November morning. Autumn is coming to an end. One can start to feel the chills of the wind that blows on the face, especially when the heart is lacking the warmth of love. Sho took a walk to the park near his high school to visit the heart on the tree. A lot of things had changed since their high school years, but the tree was still standing strong.

“Here, the heart is complete now.” Ohno said to Sho when he carved the other half of the heart on the tree after they were together. “This heart is formed and shared by us both. Without either half, it would be impaired.”

It was such a sweet gesture at the time. But neither of them would have known their hearts would be broken after all.

Visiting the tree and the heart once in a while had been the only way for Sho to cope with losing Ohno. Using his fingers to trace the heart and then closed his eyes with his palm on the heart, he could still feel the love that he and Ohno once shared. He felt the urge of doing so again this day.

Happy Birthday, Satoshi.

When he was approaching the park and the tree appeared in sight, he looked up and saw a person standing in front of the tree with his hand on the tree trunk. He recognized the figure. It was the same man who was watching him before!

He quickly ran towards the tree hoping to catch a glimpse of the man's face. But before he could go near, he saw the man turned around and started walking away.

Wait! Wait!” He started to shout at the man. But hearing his call out made the man walked even faster. When Sho reached the tree, the man was already too far away to catch up. He could only see the sight of the man's back from afar.

Who is this person? Why is he here?

He wanted to find out. He needed to find out.

To Be Continued....

Hmm, there's no need to guess.
Only 1 person in this world will stalk Sakurai Sho. XD
Towards the end, its more like a detective fic to me rather than Love fic!!! LoLz.

I like the how things got settled between Sho & Jun. Peace and very adult-like. Positive too!! Cant be lovers, but can still be friends. How many of us can actually do dat? But they did. *claps*
