[Yama fic] Tootsie (Sho birthday fic)

Title: Tootsie
Pairing: Yama  (Ohno x Sho)
Rating: PG
Genre: AU, fluff, romance
Summary: Sho was alone in a bar on his birthday night. He met an attractive girl and they had a fun night together. Sho finally realized his true feelings after she made a move.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Sho doesn’t like Jazz very much, but somehow Jazz is the only kind of music ever played in this bar, and yet he came here every Friday night for as long as he remembered.

Taking a sip from his glass of kiwi-mojito, he took notice of the usual bar activities that were happening around him. The guy at the end of the bar counter was doing janken with others for shots of vodka, but he ended up taking the shots whether he won or not. Groups of young men and women talking and laughing so loud they almost covered the sound of the music. And there were couples who sat at the farthest corners speaking softly into each other’s ears or simply making out.

“He’s late tonight.” The bartender said casually as he handed the second drink to Sho.

Yes, he never came later than after Sho finished his first drink, but Sho didn’t seem to be very anxious or concerned. “He is not coming tonight.” He responded to the barteneder who made a short pause, then continued his work without any further comment.

 “Two tequila.”

Sho saw a young man coming up to the counter and made his orders. While waiting for his drinks, the man kept looking at the opposite side of the bar and smiled. The sweetness and gentleness of the smile told Sho that the person that it was intended for must be his loved one. When the man took the two drinks he ordered and started walking back to his table, Sho’s eyes couldn’t help but following the man to where he was heading.

The man put the drinks on the table and gave the person waiting, a guy, a gentle kiss in the lips.

A guy, kissing another guy in public. It’s not a scene that Sho was used to, although he’s seeing that more and more often. He looked around the bar. Nobody else seemed to care. Why did he still feel it’s ‘weird’? What scared him even more was that an image of him who didn’t show up tonight flashed across his mind!

Why him? Why now?

“Care to buy me a drink? You seemed lonely.” A half-drunken man sat down next to Sho and started flirting.

Sho didn’t like it but didn’t want to be rude. “I am not lonely. May be some other time.”

“Come on. Just one drink. I’m a good companion.” The man moved closer. “A handsome guy like you should not be alone.”

Sho shifted further to avoid body contact and trying to ignore the man. He was never accosted before, because he was never alone here before. He almost cursed him for not coming and put him up for this unwelcomed solicitation, and now he didn't know how to dismiss that solicitor.

“Who said he’s alone?”

A sweet female voice was heard from behind. Sho turned around and saw a young lady with long blond hair dressed in fashionable clothes approaching. “He is waiting for me.” She came up next to Sho and put her hands on Sho’s shoulders. “Now please back off and don’t bother us.”

Sho was more than surprised on the unexpected event. He was about to deny when he saw the detested look of the drunken man, who then walked away unpleasantly.

“Thank you.” Sho said to the young lady after seeing the man left and found his next flirting target.

“Don’t mention it.” The young lady sat down next to Sho. “That guy is right about one thing though. A handsome guy like you should not be alone.”

It wasn't until now did Sho took a close look at her and was shocked by what he saw. What a resemblance!

"Do I have something on my face?" She asked after seeing Sho staring at her.

"Oh, no. I'm sorry for being so impolite." Sho said in embarrassment. "You just reminded me of someone."

"That someone must be very special to you, isn't she?"

"He -- " Sho corrected her. "He -- is very special."

"I see. May be I can meet him someday." A pleasant smile appeared on her face for a quick moment, not long enough for Sho to see. "Since I reminded you of someone so special, may be it's worth buying me a drink?"

"Of course, I still haven't thanked you for helping me just now. What would you like to drink, Miss -- " Sho realized they hadn't even introduced themselves yet.

"Satoko. My name is Satoko. A cosmopolitan will be great. Thank you."

"Sa -- to -- ?!"

"Is something wrong again?" Satoko asked rolling her eyes.

"No, no, not at all. I'm Sho." Sho quickly recomposed himself and ordered the drink for Satoko.

“You don't look like someone left alone in a bar on a Friday night. If you don’t mind me asking, why are you here by yourself?” Satoko asked while playing with the cherry of her drink.

Sho didn’t know why he still came when he knew he would be alone. May be he had been looking forward to this night for the whole week and didn’t know what he would do if he didn’t come.

‘Needed to do a special project tonight.’ He told Sho. What project so important to make him broke their Friday night engagement, especially tonight. It was Sho's birthday. Sho was not thrilled but didn’t dare to ask. After all, they were only friends.

“I could ask you the same thing.” Sho avoided answering the question.

“Then what do you say you be my boyfriend for tonight?” Satoko said playfully.

Sho’s eyes widened upon hearing her proposal.

“Why do you look so shocked? Don’t tell me you’re afraid of me.”

Sho knew very well that she’s goading, but somehow he didn’t mind falling for it. He thought it was a pretty crazy idea, but he liked her. Normally he wouldn’t held any conversations with strangers he met at the bar. She is different, somehow.

“Just for tonight, no strings attached, I promise. We can have a lot of fun.” She kept persuading, not knowing that Sho had already decided to accept the proposal.

“OK, if you insist. It's my birthday tonight. I guess I'm entitled to have a good time. But what are we going to do?”

“Oh! Happy Birthday. All the more reason not to be alone tonight. Don’t worry. Leave it all to me.” She took some money out of our purse and paid for both of their drinks. Then she grabbed Sho’s hand and started leading him towards the exit. “Let’s have some fun.”

Sho had no idea what he’s getting himself into, but he hadn’t done any crazy things since graduating from college. May be tonight is the night to relive that carefree feeling.

Friday night in Shibuya is insanely crowded. Seems like every young people in Japan went there at the same time. The number of people walking on the streets are like ants hurrying back to their colonies. Neon lights flashing non-stop almost makes you forget it’s day or night.

You can get separated easily with your companion if you don’t stick closely together. Satoko held on to Sho’s hand once they exited the bar. Sho seemed uneasy at first, but Satoko’s smile was pretty heart-warming and Sho started to relax around her soon after.

They walked through some streets and looked at some shop windows. At first Sho thought Satoko would most like be interesting in clothing or cosmetics like all girls do. But to his surprised she seemed to be more interested in art galleries, and sporting goods.

Satoko said she’s hungry, so they went to get crepes from the nearest store. Satoko ordered apple cinnamon with whipped cream and Sho ordered strawberry banana with chocolate fudge. They stood near a lamp post and started eating. They started talking more casually and laughed together on funny topics.

They looked like a happy couple and passerby glanced at them with admirations. However, in Sho’s mind, it was the image of another person that kept flashing by.

Satoko suggested taking pictures in the self-service photo booth. She pulled him into the booth without giving any chance for Sho to object. There's something in her that Sho couldn't say no to. The pictures turned out to be hilarious. They made crazy poses and expressions that Sho couldn't imagine he would ever make. He laughed so hard that it hurts.

"What next? Any more wacky ideas?" Sho asked teasingly. He was actually enjoying the night himself.

"I want to see Tokyo's night scene. Do you notice how beautiful it is?" Satoko said looking up to night sky and colorful lights around her.

"We could go up to -- "

"No, I don't want to see if from high above. I want to see it from a different angle this time. Follow me."

Satoko led Sho to board on a Shinagawa-station bound train and then headed for the marina. They got on a boat which seemed to be waiting for them. When Sho questioned about it, Satoko just smiled without saying a word.

The boat set off to go under the Rainbow Bridge before it turned around and headed out to Tokyo Bay. They both stood at the platform and enjoyed the night breeze and beautiful scenery.

"It's so peaceful here. I love the sea." Satoko took a deep breath and said.

Sho wasn't sure if she's talking to him or to herself, but he responded anyway. "We are only in the inner harbor. The sea is not always peaceful, you know. That's why people said 'as rough as the sea'."

"You're no fun. Why can't you just think of good things and not spoiled the pleasant moments." Satoko sighed. "No wonder you're alone."

Sho felt a little sad on the remark. He came to mind again. He loves the sea too. It would have been perfect if it was him that I am with tonight.

"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that." Satoko apologized about her remark seeing the dejected look on Sho.

"How about you? A lovely girl like you must have a lot of admirers. Don't you have a boyfriend?" Sho wanted to divert the conversation to something else, and he was indeed curious about Satoko.

"I like someone, he doesn't know. He's the dumbest smart person I have ever known."

"Ha ha, I don't know if you're praising him or criticizing him. But I'd say he is pretty dumb for not appreciating someone as beautiful and likable as you."

"Do you?" Satoko turned to Sho with a big smile on her face.

Satoko's inquiry caught Sho off guard, but he reflexively responded with a nod.

Unexpectedly, Satoko went up closer to Sho, as close as almost able to feel each other's breathings, and looked Sho straight in the eyes.

"In that case, be my real boyfriend." She said with a seductively voice and lift up her head and moved in to Sho's lips.

Sho also had a reflex, but instead of accepting the kiss, he backed away, leaving Satoko dumbfounded.

"Satoko-chan, I think you're a very beautiful and nice girl, and I do enjoy your company tonight. But -- I can't be your boyfriend." Sho told Satoko feeling a little guilty. Rejecting a nice girl like her was a cruel thing to do.

"Why not?" Satoko asked, but she didn't seem to be very mad.

"I think I'm in love with someone else." Sho said shyly. His feelings became clearer as he said it out loud.

"You think? How can you be so uncertain about this kind of thing?"

"I am in love. I know now. I really enjoyed tonight, but everything we did I was hoping to be doing them with him. His image kept popping up in my mind. I told myself it would have been a perfect night if you were him. I'm sorry."

"So, it's a 'him' that you love." Satoko rolled her eyes. "You don't think it's disgusting?"

"No, not anymore. I had my doubts, but I am certain that he is the one I want to be with. I am going to tell him how I feel once I get back. I'm really sorry if I led you on. I didn't mean to." Sho had the urge of making his confession as soon as possible. He felt he had already wasted too much time.

"That's ok. I'm glad you're able to sort out your feelings. I guess we should go back then." Satoko went to tell the captain to return to shore.

"Thank you for a wonderful night. I won't forget it." Satoko said.

"I should thank you, for helping me finally realize my true feelings. I hope that dumbest smart guy will realize how enchanting you are." Sho responded.

After they disembarked, they said goodbye and parted. Neither asked for the others phone numbers. There's no need to. They're in each other's memories already and that's good enough.

Sho took out his phone and pressed the speed dial button. Nobody answered. He's rather discouraged but decided to leave a message before heading over. It's passed 1 a.m. but Sho couldn't wait till morning. He would go crazy tonight if he didn't spit his mind out tonight.

I'm heading over to your place right now. Wait for me. I have something important to tell you.

After five or six rings at the door bell, finally someone opened the door.

"Sho, why are you here so late?" The man opening the door rubbed his eyes after they both went into the apartment.

Sho smelt a familiar scent when he went inside, but he couldn't remember where and he didn't waste any time thinking about it further.

"Satoshi, listen to me. I love you. I'm in love with you. Please let me be with you." Sho said while still catching his breath. He felt his face was all heated up, but didn't know if it's from blushing or rushing.

"What? What are you saying?" Satoshi was all confused. "I'm sorry for missing your birthday tonight, but you don't need to say non-sense like these to fool me."

"I'm not fooling you. It's the truth." Sho finally calmed himself down. He hold Satoshi's hands tight and looked at him. "I knew you have feelings for me. I was fooling myself for thinking we're just friends. But tonight someone made me realized what my true feelings are."

"Are you sure you want to me with me?  You know this is not something to joke about or easily retract when you feel like it. Someone will get hurt." Satoshi said solemnly.

"I know, and I'm sure. Cross my heart." Sho was started to be anxious. This was probably the most bashful thing he had ever done but he knew he had to do it.

Satoshi chuckled at Sho's worried look. "OK, I believe you." He took Sho closer into an embrace. He then lift up Sho's head and their lips met.

Sho almost died at the kiss. He silently thanked Satoko again. If it wasn't for tonight, if it wasn't for Satoko's seductive attempt, he might never realize what he had missed.

"So, I guess you don't want to be the dumbest smart guy after all. Huh?"

"Wh -- what?" Sho looked at Satoshi with wide opened eyes. "Sa -- to -- ?!!!!"

I wouldn't put it pass Oh-chan at all to pull something like this off just so our Keio boy can finally get past his inhibitions. What a sly, old man. Lovely Yama birthday fic! Thanks for sharing! <3

OKOK. I m here to comment, before "someone" kicks me again. LOL.
Somehow, the Mama Sho here fits 1 of the impression I have for him - Silly and 天然 when things r related to Papa Sato. *chuckles*
And to deal with this side of Mama, external 刺激 is very much needed!!! LOL.
Like how Papa Sato became MISCHIEVOUS in the story. Kawaii!!! ^^
