Chapter 2

She finally left. Her whole visit lasted less than fifteen minutes, but it seems like forever to Sho.

His eyes are still staring at the wedding picture, but his mind is blank.

Ohno will be here in less than two hours. How does Sho face him now, knowing that he will be someone else’s husband soon? Is that why Ohno seemed to be so out of it lately? Is it about the wedding? Is it about his family business? Is Ohno ever going to tell me about the wedding?

There are many questions in Sho’s mind, but most of them he doesn’t really want to know the answers. Now he just wish he could go with Ohno to some deserted island where they have no social or family obligations and just be together. Unfortunately this thought only lasts a few seconds. He knows all too well it is a childish thought. He has to face the reality no matter how cruel it is. He has a very important decision to make, and he knows he has to make it before Ohno arrives.

Sho and Ohno went to the same high school. Although Ohno was his senior by two years, they were both in the school soccer team. They practiced together, played games together and showered together, like what normal schoolmates and teammates do. They were not close, Ohno hang out mostly with friends from his own grade level. He might not even have paid attention to Sho too much. However, his unusual silence during team meetings and always carrying a drawing sketch book did attract Sho's attentions somewhat. But nothing was out of the ordinary until that day.

He didn’t remember exactly how that strange feelings began. All he remembered was that day after the game in which he made a last minute game winning goal, he came out from a shower and bumped into a half-naked Ohno. Ohno looked at him, patted on his sloping shoulder, and said “Good job!” with the sweetest cutest smile on his face. That very moment, Sho felt an electric shock ran through his body, and his face got uncontrollably hot. He had never felt this way before. But he was glad that Ohno walked away after saying the two words and didn’t see his reactions.

From that day on, Sho paid a lot more attentions to Ohno. He stole glances at him whenever they're close by and can't help noticing that his face will blush every time. He tried to be close to Ohno whenever he could, sitting next to him when eating, walked home with him after practices, even asked Ohno questions on school work although his grades were much better than Ohno’s.

Little by little, he senses that his feelings for Ohno had grown stronger and stronger. He doesn't know what to do. He never had these kind of feelings before, not even for a girl, let alone for another boy. He's too shy to confide to anyone. He's scared of how others would react. Ohno never really initiated any other conversations with him, which dismay his slightest thought of confessing to Ohno. He could only keep his feelings to himself.

One time they walked home after practice together. Ohno is in his usual silent. But Sho still enjoyed his company. When they passed by a big tree at a nearby park, Sho spontaneously went up to the tree and crafted half a heart shape on the tree. He is not good at art, but Ohno could still tell it's a half-heart shape. When he saw that Sho is not completing the full heart, he puzzled.

“Why stop here?” Ohno finally spoke, “What about the other half?”

“Someone will complete the heart for me – someday” Sho smiled. “That someone is you.” He whispered to himself, partly hoping Ohno to hear.

“I didn't know you're that sentimental.” Ohno grinned and continued to walk.

Sho gave a sigh and followed. He's never gonna get it.

The school year ended and Ohno graduated. He learned that Ohno will not be going to college, but instead will be helping in his father’s business. The graduation day was by far the saddest day of Sho’s life. He wouldn’t be able to see Ohno every day anymore. He wanted and tried to stay in touch with Ohno, but found out that he’s running out of execuses to go visit him. He suggested going to soccer games together, and they went for a few times. But gradually Ohno became too busy with work that he rejected Sho’s invitations more and more often.

Sho graduated from high school and continued on to attend college. As time goes by, he lost contact with Ohno. But the feelings he had for him never dissipates.

After Sho graduated from college, he became a reporter. He was smart and hard working. Not for long he was being assigned big projects and got to do a lot of travelling. He is a handsome man and has a nice body build. Many women (and men) have crushes on him. He dated some of them here and there, but was never serious about any of them. He is twenty-nine years old now but still does not have a steady lover. His parents are worried, but he keeps telling them that his work is his first priority at the moment, which he knows is the best excuse he has.

Deep down inside him he knew where his heart is -- with Ohno. No women, or men, can replace Ohno. Although so many years had passed, he never felt the same way with anyone else.

On some lonely nights, he would hold a glass of wine in his hand and looked out far far away through the window.

“Satoshi, where are you?”

Awww that was so sad! I do believe Sho is the type to remain loyal for life once his heart is set. ♥ The heart on the tree is so cute; I hope the other half gets completed by his loved one soon!
