[Yama fic] Destiny of Love (Chapter 9)

Title: Destiny of Love (9 of 16)
Pairing: Yama (Ohno x Sho)
Rating: PG
Summary:  Sho made a decision about Hiroko's request

Chapter 9

Sho is slowly coming back from his shock of Hiroko's surprised visit. How did she know about Satoshi and me? How did she know about this place?

Those are not important anymore. She knows, that is what matters now. And the request she made of him.

Sho had slim hope that Ohno would give up everything for him. It’s not fair for Ohno. He was just hoping that this day when Ohno has to end their relationship would not come too soon. And he never imagined Hiroko was the one who actually ended things for him and Ohno.

May be Hiroko was right. She and Ohno would be a happy couple if he never came into the picture. Ohno did look happy in the wedding picture, didn't he?

“I can give him a family” Sho remembered Hiroko said. That's something I definitely cannot give Satoshi. He is the only son in the family. His parents must be expecting him to carry on the family name.

Although he didn’t give any answer to Hiroko, he feels, he knows there is only one choice he can make. He can’t let Ohno’s family business goes down the drain. He can’t let Ohno be named a fickle and irresponsible person. He can't let Ohno disappoints his parents for not carrying on his family name. Leaving Hiroko for a guy and destroying the family business might make Ohno a disgrace to the family.

Sitting alone in the room, Sho already feels the emptiness and loneliness inside him. Slowly he turned his head and looked around the apartment. Every corner is full of their sweet memories. They sat on the couch watching soccer games on TV together. They made noodles together in the kitchen. Ohno drew while he was reading newspaper at the dining table. Their teasing and laughing could still be heard. And of course their wonderful intimacies in bed. Beautiful images kept replaying on Sho's mind, but the sweeter the memories were, the more bitter he feels now.

He knew he had to end it today. It’s of nobody’s benefit if it drags on any longer. He could not just disappear, Ohno knows where to find him. And knowing Ohno, he wouldn't let him go without putting the blames on himself. He could not mention Hiroko’s visit and request. It would just create tensions between them. He wants Ohno to be happy, even if it is not with him.

Think, Sho, think.

The clock strikes one. Ohno is an hour late. Every minute is torturing to Sho after Hiroko’s visit. He doesn’t really know how he could face his lover, but he knew he has to go through with it, for Ohno’s sake.

The front door finally opens. If it were before, Sho would jump up to Ohno and give him a big hug followed by a soft gentle kiss. But today he just remained seated on the couch showing no signs of excitement.

“It sure took you long enough.” Sho said with a cold displeased voice.

Ohno was somewhat stunned by Sho’s greeting. He knew he was late, but it’s not the first time and Sho usually wouldn’t make a big deal out of it.

He went up to Sho, wrapped his arms around Sho's neck and kisses him. When his lips were about to touch Sho's, Sho suddenly turned away and Ohno ended up kissing Sho's cheek.

“I'm sorry, my love” Ohno tried to apologize with his face still close to Sho, trying to turn around the stiff atmosphere.

Sho put both his hands on Ohno's shoulders and gave a hard push, causing the off guard Ohno to lose his balance and almost fell to the floor. In all series of actions, Sho never made eye contact with Ohno. He then stands up and walked towards the kitchen, poured a glass of alcohol and drank it down at one blast. What he's about to say will take every bit of strength in him.

He took a deep breath, putting on a frowning face as best as he knows how, and slowly turned his head to face Ohno.

“I've had enough”, clenching fists in both shaking hands, he started to speak. “I can't live like this anymore.”

“I’m tired of waiting for you all the time, waiting for you to be freed from you business, from your family, from you fiancée. I am always your lowest priority. I’m sick of it…”

Sho wants to spit out everything he needed to say before he lost willpower.

Ohno was beyond shocked on Sho’s sudden outburst. What made him so mad today?

“Please, let me explain…” Ohno tried to calm down his upset lover.

Ignoring Ohno’s attempt to speak, Sho continued in a harsh tone. “We have been together for almost a year now. You promised you will sort things out, but what have you done so far?”

“You are seeing me less and less. Not even returning my calls or text. Are you avoiding me?”

“Of course not, it’s just that…”

“You’re busy, right? Always the same lame excuse.”

“I will try…”

“Try what? What can you try? Did you try breaking up your engagement?” Sho finally brought up the subject, knowing that Ohno would not be able to answer him.

Ohno remained silent, looking down on the floor. He is full of guilt on this matter, especially now that the wedding is about to happen. Ever since he was together with Sho, he had been trying hard to cancel the wedding, but family and moral obligations had given him no way out. The wedding date was set two months ago. He was dragged to preparing for the ceremony, that’s why he couldn’t get away to meet Sho. He has yet to find a way to break the news to him.

“No, you haven’t. Am I correct? I bet you never wanted to” Sho could feel his eyes are getting watery, but he refrained himself from letting his true emotions out. I’ve got to finish this.

“Let’s end this!” He tried to keep his harsh tone but he can hear his voice is trembling.

“What are you saying, Sho?” Ohno couldn't believe what he just heard.

“Why? We can continue to see each other, even after…” Even after he’s married, Ohno wanted to say, but he can’t bring himself to finish the sentence. It is too much to ask.

“I refuse to be your secret lover any longer. I deserve better. I’m – I’m seeing someone, someone who treats me as top priority, someone who can give me a future! And – much better than you – in bed…”

Satoshi, forgive me…

Ohno looked straight at Sho, with his mouth wide open. He is in total shock. Knowing how much Sho loved him, he would never imagine those words coming out from Sho. Sho is sleeping with someone else???

“Why?! How could you?! I thought you love me! You’re lying!” Ohno didn't want to believe Sho would betray his love that easily.

“Why would I lie about something like this? For the past few months we hardly see each other, I was lonely, you know. Yes, I did love you, but what did I get in return? I couldn't even celebrate your birthday with you!” Sho clenched his fists even tighter.

“I know I hadn't been fair to you. But still, how could you just sleep with someone else when you're with me? Doesn't our relationship mean anything to you?” Ohno is angry and hurt, but Sho is hurting even more.

“Of course I did, but you're the one who don't treasure it. Who is engaged to marry someone else here?” Sho is trying to say the most hurtful words he could think of.

“I don't treasure it? I had been trying every way I know how to break off this engagement. I hardly touched Hiroko since I'm with you, even when she begged me to. I have been faithful to you all this time! And you – how can you sleep with someone else when you said you love me?”

Ohno felt like such a fool. This whole year he had been trying so hard to delay the wedding and possibly break off the engagement so he can be with Sho. He was under tremendous pressure from his family to go through with this marriage, and was overwhelmed with guilt of betrayal when he was with either Sho or Hiroko. He stressed himself out with the thought that he was going to hurt everybody he loves.

“We're just apart for two months and you already couldn't wait to sleep around. You don't know what love is! You don't deserve love!” Ohno shouted at Sho angrily. It was the love between them that kept him going, kept him from breaking down. But it seemed that love has been thrown away like trash by the person he was fighting so hard for. He felt betrayed. All the frustrations and agony he had been suppressing inside him are erupting like a volcano.

What Ohno said both melted and broke Sho's heart, but he was utterly shocked by Ohno's outburst. He had never seen his lover so furious before. Though swallowing his tears and pain within himself, he's glad what he planned is working.

The more he resents me, the easier it would be to let go.

“Whatever,” He needed to wrap this up, he couldn't bare to see how hurt Ohno is much longer.

“Just go back to your Hiroko. She can give you all the love you want.” Sho said it in a sarcastic tone, but he actually meant what he said.

“Goodbye! Satoshi…” Sho has used up his last bit of energy. He grabbed his jacket and headed for the door, turning his head to take a last glimpse of his beloved Satoshi, who is still standing motionless, looking at the floor. Satoshi, I love you, I love you…

His sight gets blurrier as tears rush out from his eyes. He is not restraining them anymore, he is too weak to do so. He slammed the door close behind him, knowing that he had just destroyed something that he had treasured all his life.

He got into his car and started driving. Where to, he doesn’t know, he doesn't care…

A/N: Thank you for all the readers who have been following this series. I really appreciate it. This chapter is rather tear-jerking. I cried myself while writing this. Then why do I have to write such a sad chapter? You may ask. I feel that the love which can overcome the most hardship and obstacles is the one that can last forever. And I believe Yama love is such kind of love :)

Wah! I really like this chapter even though it's so sad. Sho might have lied, but he also told some truths and Sho also hears what Ohno has to say about what he (Ohno) has been trying to do do and what he is doing.

That's so true, love that can overcome hardships is the kind of love that lasts :)
